This came Third Place in the Japanese Embassy's Manga Jiman 2010 contest!

My first completely digital comic! ^_^ Drawn on SAI and with text added on PHotoshop. THis was fun to do and I hope to do more like this in the future.

As the requirements of the contest was to draw a 6-8 page manga, (which could be a whole story or merely a section) I just drew the first 8 pages of the story though I will finish this later.

The idea of To Sail a Moon was originally inspired from the Moonpig.com advert and Sailor Moon to create a Sailor Moon fanart. However I liked the idea so much, I decided to create characters around it.

Artwork here was inspired by *pyromaniac and `Endling

This is amazing. Very dreamy and fairy tale ish. Love it.
Definitely set a great atmosphere within the comic too and I like the homage to sailor moon :P
You said something about the judge comparing it to online dating or something? Can't Remember, anyway I don't get that lol maybe I'm missing something...

yeah one of the judges was convinced that there was a hidden metaphor in the story about internet romance, or something on the lines of that ._. none of the other judges thought so but he INSISTED that I had done something in the story and pointed out so many things that one of the other judges started to believe him. Later the other judge came and asked me if I had any hidden messages in the story and I said no ._. My only 'message' was that one thing can bring joy to one person but create devastation to others. Nothing to do with internet romance at all =/

still ... it's open to interpretation I guess XD

Nah I still don't get it :[ lolll but that's cool the judge interpreted something interesting.

Last year, I was told my work was in the re-read pile and got looked at twice and then got discarded XD
Think that was close to getting in the ranks. Don't think I did well this time, kind of rushed :/
Judge said I had good level of art but story was a bit typical. Hopefully they do the contest this year :]

I can't quite see how it worked either =/

I entered last year but got it all completely wrong XD went about the wrong subject so probably didn't get anywhere at all. I didn't get any feed back from them about my entry so I guess yours did get quite high and they were encouraging you to do better next time XD is there any way I can see your entry?

If they encouraged me to do better this time then I let that down XD Ah well, I've learnt a lot and I know where I went wrong etc.

My goodness that was beautifully done, I can't wait to see the rest. I've never tried a comic before...maybe I should. Your work is definitely inspirational XD

I'd love to finish this :D Woot ^o^ I'm glad you find it so :D `Endling is my inspiration to draw comics again. I was going about drawing them before cos I felt like it was somehow compulsory for me to draw it >_>;, then after reading some of the things he created, I just found comics so fun to draw and I just don't want to stop! Tis a pity school gets in the way, but that's life ¬_¬; Dammit if I drew comics for a living then I'd be in Heaven :D

Yes, school is a bother T_T the deadline for my AS Art Unit 1 is this Friday so things are a bit hectic right now XD

I love how the captions all rhymed! After reading this, so many things that I've been wondering about for quite a while, they all make sense now!

nicely done. it feels like a fairy tale - with the rhyming couplets and fanciful floating across the skies and such.
